Professor in Urban Studies, Nick Bailey, has been elected as a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences.

Head of Urban Studies, Dr Sharon Wright, said "This is a great honour, which recognises Nick's unique and outstanding contribution to research and to the application of social science to policy, education, society and the economy."

On receiving this award Nick commented "The Academy has a vital role to play as the public face of social science in the UK. And it has probably never been more relevant than right now as we discuss the COVId-19 pandemic and the Government's responses to it. In the coming months and years, it will be social scientists who inform public debates about the immediate impacts but also the more lasting effects of the 'lockdown'."

The Academy of Social Sciences is the national academy of academics, learned societies and practitioners in the social sciences. Its mission is to promote social science in the United Kingdom for public benefit. The Academy is comprised of nearly 1400 individual Fellows, 46 Member Learned Societies, and a number of affiliates. Together, this body of organisations is a community of some 90,000 social scientists. Academy Fellows are leading professional social scientists from academia and the public and private sectors.
