The School is delighted to welcome some new staff members to the team. Joining us we have:

Ewan Gibbs, Lecturer in Global Inequalities
Before joining us Ewan taught at the University of the West of Scotland where he developed research projects related to foreign direct investment and industrial heritage. Ewan’s monograph, Coal Country: the meaning and memory of deindustrialization in postwar Scotland, will be published by the Royal Historical Society’s ‘New Historical Perspectives’ series in 2021. He is currently beginning a new project on Scottish ‘energy nationalisms’, which is supported by a Carnegie Research Incentive Grant. This research will inform international debates over the political economy of fossil fuels and renewables, sub-state nationalisms and policy routes to achieving an environmental ‘just transition’.

Louise Kelly, Finance Administrator
Prior to joining the University, Louise worked as a Travel and Expenses Administrator with The Scottish Parliament for three years. She recently relocated back to Glasgow in order to be closer to friends and family, and also gain more experience in Financial Administration.

Michael Loader, Leverhulme Early Career Fellow & Assistant Editor of the Journal of Baltic Studies
He has been a Postdoctoral Fellow at the International Centre for the History and Sociology of WWII and its Consequences at the Higher School of Economics in Moscow, and a Postdoc at the Institute of Russian and Eurasian Studies at Uppsala University in Sweden. His research interests include the workings of the Soviet Communist Party, nationality politics and centre-periphery relations in the USSR, particularly Soviet Latvia. He joins CEES on a three-year Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship with a project entitled ‘Centre-Periphery Relations in Flux: National Politics in the Soviet Borderlands’. His publications have appeared in Europe-Asia Studies, Nationalities Papers, the Slavonic and East European Review and the Journal of Baltic Studies.
