The Glasgow Synbio team have registered a team entry to the iGEM annual competition.

Dr Julien Reboud, School of Engineering who is leading the team with Dr Sean Colloms of the Institute of Molecular, Cell and Systems Biology, confirmed that University of Glasgow have registered a team to the annual, world-wide, synthetic biology event aimed at undergraduate university students as well as high school and graduate students.

The team, named Glasgow iGEM 2016 is made up of Pinja Hartikainen, Olivia Kemp, Simone Marcegaglia, Lindsey McKerrel, Fergus O'Brien, Liam Pollock, Deanna van Spall, Matej Vucak, Ailed Watson and Catriona Watson. The students are multi-disciplinary across Biomedical Engineering, Genetics, Molecular and Cellular Biology and Biochemistry. They team are entering with funding from the University, EPSRC, BBSRC, IBioIC, Wellcome Trust and SEB.

The aim of the competition is for teams to work all summer long to build genetically engineered systems using standard biological parts called Biobricks. iGEM teams work inside and outside the lab, creating sophisticated projects that strive to create a positive contribution to their communities and the world.
