Short Description

To enable students to acquire an understanding of the legal framework for business organisations. Agency, partnerships, companies and companies and their debts are dealt with.

Timetable

■ Two lectures of one hour each per week with an additional 3 sessions of 1 hour each in selected weeks.

Assessment

■ Summative Assessment: 1200 word Essay: 30% on Section A of the syllabus.

■ Examination: 70% on Sections B and C of the syllabus.

Course Aims

To enable students to acquire an understanding of the legal framework for business organisations. Agency, partnerships, companies and companies and their debts are dealt with.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:


- understand and apply the general principles of the law of agency to factual scenarios;

- understand and apply the general principles of the of partnership law (including the law of limited partnerships and limited liability partnerships) to factual scenarios;

- understand and apply the general principles of company law to factual scenarios;

- understand and apply the general principles relating to the funding of different business entities to factual scenarios;

- identify and explain, by reference to case law or statute or both, the relevant legal sources for the general principles; and

- evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of different legal structures to a business.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

The minimum requirement for the award of credit is that the candidate submits all elements of the assessment for the course.
