Navigating the intricacies of health services can be a daunting task, particularly when resources are limited and competing needs and demands must be balanced. In order to provide safe, high-quality care, Scottish Government reports have identified a need for health and social care professionals to enhance their leadership and management capabilities. This course offers a unique opportunity for those in the healthcare field to develop their understanding of management and leadership theories, and to hone their skills to excel in a career in health service management. Throughout this course, learners will gain the necessary tools to be adaptable, creative, innovative and analytical, enabling them to stay ahead of the curve in an ever-evolving healthcare landscape.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Assess the role of management and leadership in UK health services;
  • Evaluate the organisation and delivery of health care services, including interorganisational issues;
  • Critically appraise the principles underlying the development of health services and health service policy;
  • Evaluate and apply the principles of quality assurance, clinical governance, and risk management in health services.

Week 10: Consolidation of Learning

Assessment

  • Weekly Quiz (optional)

Learners will take a formative quiz each week to consolidate their understanding of the course content.

  • Summative Assessments (100%) (optional)
  1. Learners will produce a 500-word bulletin on a relevant topic. Due in Week 6.
  2. Learners will produce a 1,500-word essay. Due in Week 11.

Learners who choose to submit these assessments will be awarded 10 Academic Credits towards a relevant Master’s degree at the University of Glasgow.

Meet The Team

This course is designed and delivered by Sue Campbell.

Sue is a Lecturer in the School of Medicine at the University of Glasgow, teaching on Health Service Management, Public Health and Global health programmes. Sue has 18 years of work experience in public health in Sub-Saharan Africa.
