The Desistance Knowledge Exchange Project recently won the ESRC award for Outstanding Impact in Public Policy. The project is based in the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research and led by Professor Fergus McNeill.

The collaboration with colleagues at Queen's University Belfast, the University of Sheffield and the Institute for Research and Innovation in Social Services, involved the production of a documentary film, 'The Road from Crime', the development of a 'Discovering Desistance' blog, and running a series of workshops across the UK and internationally involving policymakers, practitioners, ex-offenders and family members. The workshops generated a wide range of proposals for criminal justice reform, many of which have been taken up by probation and prison services and in penal policy-making.
