Scientists in the University of Glasgow are playing a major role in the forthcoming upgrade of the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.

Prototype detectors for the planned Inner Tracker (ITk) are currently being tested through the use of particle testbeams, and recently Dr Andrew Blue (ITk testbeam coordinator) was interviewed by the CERN magazine 'On Track'.

The most recent testbeam in May 2017 was carried out at DESY (Hamburg, Germany) and thanks to transnational access funds the shift crew consisted of some 20 shifters from 13 institutes including scientists from Canada, China and South Africa.
