On July 25, El País, the most circulated and read Spanish daily newspaper, published an article on Dr. Jordi Cornellà-Detrell’s research. The article, entitled ‘James Baldwin al completo y sin censura’ and written by Andrea Aguilar, discusses Cornellà’s work on American writer and civil rights activist James Baldwin. Cornellà, who is extensively quoted, has studied James Baldwin’s travels to Spain and his relationship with local intellectuals, the presence of Spain in his oeuvre (particularly the writer’s views on Francisco Franco’s dictatorship) and the complex reception of his work during Franco’s regime. Cornellà highlights the originality and importance of Baldwin's legacy in the context of the 100th anniversary of his birth. This research is part of Cornellà's Impact Case Study on the long-lasting effects of censorship in Spain, which has been extensively covered in the national and international press.
