Thanks to the AHRC IAA, in 2023, my book Fragments, Genius and Madness: Masks and Mask-Making in the fin-de-siècle Imagination (2021)

became a source for a series of activities for High school students co-designed with teachers and museum curators. Students learned about the functions of masks as tools for transformation, portraits, and decorative objects, and explored the ill-defined boundaries between art, science and rituals through visits to the Edinburgh Anatomical Museum, The Glasgow Masks and Puppet Centre and Sharmanka. They then incorporated their learning into their own mask-projects, which were displayed at a fantastic exhibition at the ARC. Several of the art works went on to win prestigious prizes at the Trade House of Glasgow Craft Competition. We are excited to announce that the project has been funded for a second round this year, which will also see the collaboration of the Hunterian Museum. We look forward to seeing new, surprising artwork!
