Episode One - On the Origins of the MSc: Standing on the Shoulders of Giants

In 1984 Dr. Douglas Wilcox, an Honorary NHS Consultant in medical genetics, envisioned a postgraduate degree to train the next generation of clinicians, research and diagnostic scientists. With the help of his colleagues, Dr. Wilcox founded the University of Glasgow’s MSc Medical Genetics programme.

Dr. Wilcox went on to become the first programme director. He saw each student as an individual and encouraged them to be their best.

Although he retired in 2011, Dr. Wilcox legacy endures as the programmes grows each year.
