Columba and Iona: An Interdisciplinary Conference
9-10 December 2021

The AHRC-funded project, Iona’s Namescape: place-names and their dynamics in Iona and its environs, based in Celtic & Gaelic at the University of Glasgow, will be hosting a conference in December 2021 to commemorate the 1500th anniversary of the traditional date of the birth of St Columba, the founder of the monastery of Iona.

All presentations will be pre-recorded and made available to registered participants only via a dedicated, password protected space on our project website. We will make the recordings available session-by-session, in the days leading up to the conference, so these can be viewed at participants’ convenience. Participants will be encouraged to submit questions and discussion points in response, and then we will hold live Q&A/roundtable discussion sessions via Zoom on the designated days of the conference, themed by the topics of the papers. The three keynote lectures will also be delivered (online) on these days.
