The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Global Health Research Group (NIHR GHRG) on arthritis held a successful policy meeting and dissemination event in Tanzania in August and September, marking the culmination of the project, which sought to estimate the prevalence, economic, health and quality of life impact of arthritis in Tanzania.

Team members from the universities of Glasgow and Bristol visited partner institution Kilimanjaro Clinical Research Institute (KCRI) and had a fruitful week of meetings, community dissemination and a policy meeting attended by key stakeholders from across Tanzania. The event was reported in local media and attendees expressed that the NIHR GHRG team had been successful in highlighting the often-overlooked plight of arthritis sufferers in Tanzania.

The NIHR GHRG arthritis team is looking forward to planning further research on arthritis in Tanzania, where it has already been instrumental in setting up a dedicated arthritis clinic at th Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC) in Moshi, Tanzania.
