The MVLS Engagement team and public engagement colleagues offer training designed to assist staff and students to develop their skills in public engagement.   • NERC Virtual Community Science Camp
    ECRs in environmental science may be interested in this free public engagement programme.

    This interactive online learning programme explores the concept and practice of community-centred approaches to research as seen through a diverse set of case study examples.
    Ask questions and gain insight into how the course can support your professional and personal development.
  • STEM Ambassadors & Global Science Show
    Calling all STEM Ambassadors - #STEMAmbassadorsInScotland will be continuing into March with a collaboration with The Global Science Show a special event on Twitter on 12 March during British Science Week! There'll be an info session on 12 February, and training on 19 February with support to get your content spot on.   • FAMELAB 2021
    Register your interest at Famelab Registration
    Then book your place for the Glasgow event at: Fit for Famelab!
    Each year, scientists across the UK develop their communication skills while engaging and entertaining audiences with a 3-minute talk on a STEM subject. Applications are open to all MVLS staff and students from undergraduate to professor.
  • SciScreen – seeking STEM researchers
    ScotSci is a volunteer run science outreach organisation based in Edinburgh. They are seeking researchers (across any scientific or interdisciplinary field) who would be interested in communicating their research to a public audience as part of a "SciScreen" events.
    Every month (4th Thursday, 7pm), they host a free online SciScreen event - where a researcher gives a talk (~15-20 minutes) followed by a Q&A session connected to a movie. The event is currently hosted on zoom with the group watching the film together on legitimate streaming platforms or individually.

  • The Ideas Fund
    This new grants programme run by the British Science Association and funded by Wellcome, seeks to enables the UK public to develop and try out ideas that address problems related to mental wellbeing. They are offering early stage grants of up to £25,000 and larger grants of around £90,000 in designated areas including the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.
