Philip Schlesinger spoke on ‘The post-public sphere and neo-regulation of media and communications’ at an international colloquium held at the LSE on 7-8 September. In a highly engaged debate about ‘The public sphere in an age of conflict and systemic crises’, the speakers considered key conceptual questions and discussed new empirical research. A unifying concern was the range of threats to democracies presently playing out in communicative spaces and the kinds of policies that might address these.
