Cultured heart cells don't contract properly in plastic/glass wells

Eline Huethorst, a recent BHF PhD Fellow and current a post-doc working in Godfrey Smith's lab has had a paper accepted by the Journal of Physiology demonstrating that cultured heart cells should be plated on a flexible matrix rather than traditional glass/plastic to ensure normal contraction dynamics. This work was done in collaboration with colleagues in the Schools of Mathematics and Engineering at Glasgow and Dept of Pharmacology,  University  of Helsinki, Finland.
