Lorraine Work

In March, the MVLS engagement Awards and Amplify Winners were announced at an event hosted in the Glasgow Science Centre.

The MVLS engagement awards are supported by the Wellcome Institutional Strategic Support Fund, recognise, and reward those individuals and projects making a positive contribution to both our public communities and our research work.

In the Engaged researcher of the year category Dr Lorraine Work won Highly Commended. This was for her work in the run up to BRAIN & BRAIN PET 2022 International Conference with Stuart Allen (University of Manchester) and artist Dr Lizzie Burns arranges a team of cerebrovascular scientists to engage with the public at sites around Glasgow City Centre. In Buchanan Galleries and Central station, they hosted build a brain workshops, an inflatable megabrain, and brain health quizzes.

The team also arranged a series of six "Build- a brain" workshops targeting over 600 pupils in schools across Glasgow. The response from the public and pupils was outstanding and is an exemplar of outreach activities.
