Between 10-12 June 2024, Dr Radha Mukesh Ladkani and Dr Rayees Ahmad Sheikh from the Indian Institute of Management, Indore (IIM Indore) visited the Adam Smith Business School. The visit was facilitated by the International Partnership Development Fund secured by Dr Lovleen Kushwah and Dr Geethanjali Selvaretnam. This followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between IIM Indore and University of Glasgow.

The visit commenced with a welcome lunch hosted by Professor Nuran Acur, Director of Research, and organised by the School's Internationalisation, Dr Belgin Okay-Somerville. Lunch followed with research presentations from Dr Sheikh and Dr Ladkani. Dr Sheikh presented his research on ‘Time Poverty in India: Evidence from Time Use Survey,’ while Dr Ladkani focused on ‘Bankruptcy Spillovers and Stock Price Crash Risk of Non-Bankrupt Firms.’ Delegates engaged in discussions with University of Glasgow colleagues.

Potential collaborations

Dr Sheikh and Dr Ladkani met with key faculty members, including Professor Robbie Paton, Deputy Head of School; Dr Nick Quinn, Head of MBA, and programme directors, to discuss research interests, potential collaborations and share best practices.

IIM Indore delegates highlighted several unique outdoor activities designed for their students, including a Himalayan trek and a Rural Engagement to experience local lifestyle, observe community dynamics, and provide valuable policy improvement suggestions to local authorities.

Conversations sparked interest in student and staff exchanges between the two institutions, with initial steps taken to offer Glasgow students a rural India experience. We also shared our innovative approach to real-world assessments in Economics, inspiring IIM Indore to explore similar initiatives.

Dr Federica Farolfi showcased the new Behavioural Lab, generating interest in potential collaborative research projects. Dr Nick Quinn provided a tour of the MBA suite, exchanging insights about each institution’s MBA programmes. This laid the groundwork for future collaborations, particularly through COIL.

Dr Sheikh and Professor Robbie Paton discussed current activities and future trajectories for Executive Education.

This visit has significantly strengthened the partnership between the two institutions, paving the way for future collaborative opportunities and enriching experiences for both staff and students. A sustainability conference is planned for Autumn 2024 at IIM Indore, with Business School academics.
