Zoonoses have severe impacts on the health of people and animals, and consequently on the economy of developing countries. Because of the range of impacts and epidemiological complexity of zoonoses, research into their control requires the adoption of One-Health approaches, where scientists from medical, veterinary and ecological disciplines work together.

This project on the zoonotic causes of non-malaria febrile illness brings together a first-class intersectoral research team to address an important public health problem and will establish the technical capacity for the diagnosis of zoonotic pathogens with significant animal and human health impacts in Tanzania, an essential prerequisite for sustainable epidemiological research.

This will provide a focus for the development of a sustainable collaborative One-Health research platform in northern Tanzania, through training, skills transfer and the development of shared experience and expertise.
