Taylar completed her undergraduate degree in History at Glasgow and achieved her master's degree in International Slavery Studies at the University of Liverpool. Her master's thesis focused on the perceptions of enslaved Childhood in 18th Century British Caribbean.

For her PhD, she aims to build upon her research on enslaved children and explore the lives of enslaved Black girls in Barbados from 1750-1838. It aims to construct a picture of their day-to-day lives through case studies and fragmental documents in the colonial archive. Using various methodologies that centre the enslaved voice, Taylar's research will display enslaved girl children as individuals with unique experiences and showcase Black girlhood as a methodological approach to investigate the lives of enslaved people in the Caribbean.
