The University of Glasgow is to play a leading role  in four consortia of European Universities who have developed ERASMUS MUNDUS joint Master Degrees (EMJMDs) funded by the European Union for 2018. This achievement would normally represent a single country’s success and this year no other university has been successful with leading more than two applications.

The four bids have raised 15.4 million EURO for full scholarships for 309 students over four cohorts, on behalf of four consortia of European Universities involving 14 EU countries and 2 non-EU countries (Canada and Malaysia); 237 of the scholarships are for international/Partner country students, with the remainder for EU/Programme country students.Erasmus Mundus logo 650

The University of Glasgow’s College of Social Sciences now hosts seven ERASMUS MUNDUS programmes and also takes part as a full degree-awarding partner in an eighth programme led by the Autonomous University of Barcelona:

  • IntM Central and East European, Russian and Eurasian Studies (CEERES) - renewed funding - 2017
  • IntM Adult Education for Social Change (IMAESC) - renewed funding - 2018

  • IntM South European Studies (EUROSUD)

New EMJMD (2018, for Glasgow)

  • IntM Education Policy for Global Development (GLOBED) - renewed funding, led by UABarcelona

Each EMJMD scholarship will fund a student to undertake a two-year master programme, with the opportunity to travel to consortium partner institutions around Europe over three mobility periods. Funding covers fees, travel and living expenses. Students also have the option to attend summer schools, some of which are located outside of Europe. Successful students will receive a joint degree or a multiple degree, depending on the structure of each EMJMD consortium. Applications for an EMJMD scholarship are accepted from mid-September until early January each year, for a start in the following September. Self-funded applications are accepted throughout the year.

For the Glasgow mobility period, four EMJMDs are based in the School of Social and Political Sciences (CEERES, IMSISS, GLOCAL and EUROSUD), three in the School of Education (CLMC, IMAESC and GLOBED) and one in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies (TourDC), in Dumfries.
