Following the Principal’s update of 1 September regarding the pay position across the HE sector, the Living Wage Foundation announced the annual uplift to the national Voluntary Living Wage (VLW) on 22 September. 

The VLW is now £10.90 per hour representing an increase of up to 10.1% (from £9.90), which equates to £19,893 per annum based on our nominal 35-hour working week. 

As an accredited Voluntary Living Wage Employer since November 2015, the University plans to implement the new rate with immediate effect. Those colleagues in scope will receive this uplift in their October salary payment backdated to 22 September.

What does this mean?

Colleagues on spinal points 3-7 will be paid the new rate as outlined in the table below:

Discussions continue at a local level with our trade union colleagues on the University’s position with regards to pay and the very real challenges colleagues are facing, and remains committed to considering a range of options that may help to ameliorate this situation. We will share further information as soon as it becomes available.
