Launch of new Accounts Payable webpages

As part of our ongoing review of the University Purchase to Pay process, we are pleased to announce the launch of the new Accounts Payable webpage that can be found using here: https://www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/financeaccountspayable/

This page has been created to signpost and provide information to those involved in the purchasing process. Within the webpage I would like to draw your attention to the updated New Supplier Process, so please ensure you familiarise yourselves with the amendments made to the process.

There are also updates to some of the forms, so please use the Forms database to obtain the latest version and refrain from keeping saved copies of forms on personal drives.

Finally, you may be aware of a number of activities that have taking place in recent months in relation to the Purchase to Pay process, that includes Purchasing Officer refresher training, updates to forms on the Forms Database, creation of the Student Expenses Policy and now the new AP Webpage and an updated New Supplier Process.   Whilst there remains a number of areas identified to further improve on the process, we want your feedback and input and would appreciate you taking the time to complete a purchasing related survey that can be found here : https://forms.office.com/r/igsdjGQX4K

The survey should take no more than 10 minutes of your time, and we are looking for the output to contribute towards continuous improvement and help drive more efficient and effective processes.

Undergraduate transitions short courses launched

Students joining us in the new academic year will be coming to us with a unique school- and college-leaving experience. The transition into study for our undergraduates will present a range of challenges as students adapt to studying at university in a new – online, blended and hybrid – model of learning.

As a result, a new, unique range of courses are being offered to all incoming undergraduate students (except for undergraduate students on already-established Widening Participation Summer School programmes). These courses will run for two weeks in advance of semester, and they are designed to provide students with a short, intensive introduction to study, life and assessment at the University of Glasgow.

Designed and run by a sub-group of the Transitions Working Group, and led by staff in Student Learning Development, the courses will offer a backbone of academic skills and academic writing material. Students will be able to select from a range of short elective courses – ranging in topics from a history of argumentation, the power of language and the role of identity in culture to solving murder in the lab, the psychology of religion and health and inequalities during Covid-19 – to allow them to engage with interesting, current topics of debate and to put into practice the skills necessary for success at university.

The course is designed to allow students space to engage with the various forms of synchronous and asynchronous teaching, and to take part in small group discussions, social events and university life more generally. The aim is to best equip students for their studies with us; we will use the course to boost student confidence, preparedness, and motivation for their first semester.

The course will be optional, but students that complete it will receive recognition through having a successful completion of the Academic Writing Skills Programme (AWSP; the compulsory writing course that all undergraduate and postgraduate students complete at the start of their studies) added to their transcript.

This is an exciting new course for our undergraduates, and it will hopefully help to prepare them to join Team UofG in the most positive ways. For more information, contact Dr Andrew Struan (Andrew.struan@glasgow.ac.uk) in Student Learning Development.
