Short Description

This course aims to provide students with the opportunity to consolidate and enhance existing language skills, to deepen their insight into the society and way of life of their target country, and to help them develop their ability to use the language in a professional context.

Teaching takes place in a 5 week block, Monday to Friday 9am-12.30pm

Various Language Exercises - 30%

Oral Assessment & Presentation (1 x 20 minutes) - 20%

Written Examination (2 hours) - 50%

Course Aims

This course will provide the opportunity to:

■ develop language skills in areas related to students' studies and work;

■ develop awareness of the customs, culture and society of the countries in which the language is spoken;

■ develop transferable skills such as communication skills, confidence, initiative, independent learning, social/cultural sensitivity and time management

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ understand and put forward advice and opinions, both orally and in writing, as appropriate to some specific socio-cultural contexts;

■ understand fairly lengthy reading and listening materials in their field of study;

■ understand and use intermediate grammar structures of the target language, including imperfect, future and past perfect indicative;

■ perform tasks described in level A2 of the Common European Framework and some described as B1

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
