Short Description

This course is designed to enable students to revive already existing skills in their target language and to extend the scope of their communicative competence both in a social and professional context.

Timetable

Four days per week, 9.00 am - 1.00 pm, over four weeks from mid April.

Various Language Exercises - 40%

Oral assessment and Presentation (1 x 20 minutes) - 10%

Course Aims

This course will provide the opportunity to:

■ develop language skills in areas related to students' studies and work;

■ develop awareness of the customs, culture and society of the countries in which the language is spoken

■ develop transferable skills such as communication skills, confidence, initiative, independent learning, social/cultural sensitivity and time management.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ understand and put forward advice and opinions, both orally and in writing, as appropriate to some specific socio-cultural contexts;

■ understand fairly lengthy reading and listening materials in their field of study;

■ understand and use intermediate grammar structures of the target language, including imperfect, future and past perfect indicative;

■ perform tasks described in level A2 of the Common European Framework and some described as B1.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
