Short Description

This course offers students the opportunity to build on their existing knowledge base of paediatric gastroenterology, endocrine and metabolic problems. Students will have the opportunity to learn from a wide range of paediatric specialists who will suggest a focused and practical approach to commonly encountered paediatric problems within these specialist areas.

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to foster an enhanced understanding of growth and puberty, the role of nutrition, and to develop a structured approach to problems related to paediatric endocrinology, metabolic disorders and gastroenterology.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

■ Critically appraise the principles of nutrition and nutritional support in the neonate and child.

■ Apply critical evaluation, analysis and synthesis to the management of common paediatric endocrine/diabetes and GI disorders.

■ Critically appraise normal and abnormal patterns of growth & puberty.

■ Critically evaluate screening programmes for metabolic disorders and management during childhood.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
