Short Description

This course builds on the linguistic skills acquired at Beginners' Latin and will enable students to read select works of Latin literature in the original language.

Seminars: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday at 3pm over 10 weeks as scheduled on MyCampus

Requirements of Entry

Grade D3 or above in Latin 1B (LATIN1002), or at the discretion of the Head of Classics. This course may also be taken by students who can demonstrate previous study of Latin to a level satisfactory to the convener without having taken Latin 1A and 1B at Glasgow.

Course Aims

This course aims to:

■ Develop knowledge of the Latin language and grammar

■ Develop reading skills of both seen and unseen texts

■ Develop a detailed understanding and appreciation of prescribed texts

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Understand grammatical features of the Latin language to intermediate level

■ Translate and comment upon passages from the set texts after prepared reading

■ Translate, without preparation, passages of literary Latin into English

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
