Short Description

Working from the treatment development in the first core course, students will realise a short moving image project, developed for a film/TV programme/art project. Students will attend workshops and write a short critical essay reflecting on elements of practice.

1 x 3 hour seminar per week

1 x 5 hour practical workshop sessions per week

3 tutorial meetings with assigned academic mentor

1500 word critical essay (20%)

5 min. film or equivalent incorporating supporting documentation (80%)

Course Aims

This course aims to:

■ To develop students technical skills relevant to their proposed final project

■ Based on input from seminars and workshops and structured learning activities, provide students with skills to take project from pitch to realisation of 'teaser'

■ Provide students opportunity to critically reflect on and assess their own practice

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Confidently apply technical skills needed to create/realise a small scale/initial iteration of their proposed final project

■ Apply the knowledge gained from seminars and workshops in transferring their project from page to screen

■ Work successfully with an academic advisor to reflect critically on their own media practice

■ Locate their filmmaking/media arts within theoretical debates in the field and articulate this in a critical essay

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
