Short Description

Education in Practice is where educational theory and practice combine. Key educational themes are pursued across each of the four years with increasing demand and complexity as the degree progresses. Education in Practice 3 explores aspects of initial teacher education with a particular focus on assessment theory.

Assessment

Assessment

This course will be assessed by means of a written assignment, including an essay which demonstrates the student's understanding of contemporary educational perspectives and theories in relation to assessment practice.

Course Aims

The aim of this course is to extend student knowledge and understanding of assessment theories within education.

Students will continue to deepen their capacity to support learning by analysing the role of the teacher. Students will also critically evaluate their own development as a learner and teacher through personal and professional reflection.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

1. Demonstrate knowledge of assessment theories in education

2. Analyse pedagogical perspectives towards learning and assessment

3. Critically evaluate the ways in which your professional epistemology is emerging

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment. Students must have an 80% attendance at lectures and seminars.
