Investigation into the importance and promotion of collaborative practice in providing best service for children and families.

Assessment

Using the pen portrait provided, students will work in pairs to consider the possible involvement of inter-agencies. Students should indicate the key concepts, issues and strategies of multi-professional collaboration thereby demonstrating a commitment to the related principles and methods. Students can add appropriate additional information to enrich the discussion (750 word equivalent) 20%

 

Students will provide a rationale which explores strategies for working in partnership across agency boundaries for the benefit of service users. The narrative should contextualise the philosophy of integrated children's services. (1000 words +/- 10%) 50%

 

Students will create a pen portrait from their own practice (all details should be anonymised) which exemplifies good multi-professional practices evident within their workplace, underpinned by commentary, theory, legislation and standards. (750 word equivalent) 30%

 

Students are required to successfully complete two sections of this assignment.

Course Aims

The course aims to:

enable participants to reflect upon their own attitudes, behaviour and inter-personal skills as key factors in developing successful collaborative practices


identify issues in collaborating across the field of compulsory and non compulsory
childcare and education services

 

enable participants to develop an understanding of the difficulties related to the collaborative process

 

develop their skills in overcoming such barriers to promote effective practice

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

At the end of this course, students should be able to:

gain an understanding of, and apply key concepts and issues relating to, collaboration, particularly working across and within professional boundaries

critically evaluate their existing collaborative practices and develop strategies for future networking, collaboration and negotiation

demonstrate a commitment to principles and methods for developing collaborative practices for all those working with children aged 0-16

evaluate the implementation of integrated coherent services for children and families

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

At least 66% attendance. Students must attend the equivalent of 2 full days of input out of 3.
Participation in formative assessment task.

Submission of summative assessment task.

Students must pass two out of the three assessment elements to obtain a pass grade.
