Short Description

· To attain a level of expertise and knowledge which will enable the student to embark on further research at an advanced level in Celtic Studies or a cognate field.
· To demonstrate familiarity with some key methods applicable to the study of Celtic langauges literatures and cultures.
· To gain experience in writing a sustained discussion of a topic at an advanced level in Celtic Studies.
· To gain experience in undertaking original independent research.
· To contribute new information and insights into an aspect of Celtic Studies.
· To achieve a level of competence in scholarly presentation.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of the degree and through the submission of a dissertation, it is intended that the student will:

demonstrate through an extended piece of written work the attainment of a level of expertise and knowledge that will enable the student to embark on further research at an advanced level in Celtic Studies.

demonstrate through an extended piece of written work the acquisition of research faculties, and an ability to make a sustained argument in the field of Celtic Studies and to undertake original research.

demonstrate the design and management of a project and contextualisation of research.

demonstrate the acquisition of bibliographical skills (including identification and use of web-based resources) appropriate for the academic context.

demonstrate, through the accuracy of the student's work, competence in record-keeping and record management.
