The course provides an introduction to the academic study of Social and Economic History focusing on key skills and ideas essential to Level 1 courses in the College of Social Sciences.

Course Aims

To introduce students to Social and Economic History and to enable them to develop academic literacies necessary for Level 1 undergraduate study in social science disciplines.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

 

■ Identify and explain key areas of social and economic change in Britain covered by the course.

■ Present analyses of historical change, demonstrating an understanding of causality.

■ Use relevant primary and secondary historical source materials appropriately.

■ Communicate theories and concepts in social and economic history in a logical and effective manner, using key terminology from this field of study, as required for University Level 1 courses.

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
