This course provides an introduction to the academic study of Psychology, focusing on the key skills and ideas essential to Level 1 courses in the College of Social Sciences.

Course Aims

The aims of the course are to introduce students to the discipline of Psychology, and to enable them to develop the academic literacies necessary for Level 1 undergraduate study in the College of Social Sciences.

Intended Learning Outcomes of Course

By the end of this course students will be able to:

■ Demonstrate an awareness of the character of the questions posed by Psychology, and the scientific means by which Psychology goes about answering them

■ Communicate Psychology theories and concepts in a logical and effective manner, as required for University Level 1 courses

■ Correctly and confidently use key terminology of this field of study

■ Carry out and interpret basic statistical analysis of data

 

Minimum Requirement for Award of Credits

Students must submit at least 75% by weight of the components (including examinations) of the course's summative assessment.
