Una Marie Darragh - Student Engagement Lead for the School of Computing Science

I’m Una Marie, Student Engagement Lead for the School of Computing Science. Before working in my role, I completed my undergraduate degree here in English Literature and Theatre Studies.

In my current position, one of my main priorities is trying to improve the overall student experience within the school and working on initiatives to increase student engagement. I’m the school’s good cause and disability co-ordinator and have a keen interest in supporting our students to succeed. Prior to my current role, I was the school’s Student Support Officer.

Having recently been made Co-chair of the Computing Science EDI Committee, I’m getting to grips with everything. The school has grown significantly during, and since the pandemic, so one of our goals is to establish a greater sense of community amongst both staff and students. For the next academic year, we plan to increase the number of events taking place and get students involved in the committee so that we have more varied perspectives and voices heard. We would also like to reassess our recruitment strategies and processes to try and establish a more equal gender balance and greater diversity of staff.
